Those familiar with the detent lock know how awesome it is and those unfamiliar will learn soon enough. This slip joint mechanism is all the rage because it allows for smooth opening and closing action without the oppressive force of a traditional back spring. Instead of one detent ball, it has two, which allow just the right amount of force to keep it both open and closed. This allows for the ceramic bearings to shine and the action to be as smooth as any other flipper out there, even if the tab is quite small. We find the Appalachian Drifter to be just the right size for everyday carry and its aesthetic hits right on the mark.

Civivi Button Lock Elementum – Marble Carbon Fiber Black Handle (3.47″ Black Hand Rubbed Damascus) C 2103DS-3 £145.00For this design, CIVIVI not only changed up the lock type but also went with Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel for the blade and lengthened the design about an inch overall. This makes for a completely different knife, in the same footprint that we all know and love, but this one is just downright better. The Sandvik blade will take a razor-sharp edge and provides excellent stainless properties making this a great outdoorsman’s knife. The pocket clip is now reversible for left-handed users, however, the button lock still favors righties. The lanyard post is now hidden on the backspacer – which is an excellent design choice, and the only thing that might make it better is a flipper tab. The Button Lock Elementum is ready for all-day use, tactical scenarios, and the outdoors while remaining one of the best, most capable knives at this price point.

A tactical look, a reversible deep carry clip, excellent ergonomics, superb action, and both thumb stud and flipper opening options, just to name a few. The blade comes in just under three inches for legality concerns in some locales, but we find it plenty big enough. Its natural thumb ramp allows for great leverage during use and the grip leaves nothing to be desired. Geoff and CIVIVI absolutely nailed it with this one. It is possibly the best gift for non-knife people we can think of currently.
